What you need to know about Ingrown Toenails.

How do I know I have an ingrown toenail?

You will know if you have an ingrown toenail if the area around the nail is red, it is painful, hurts to wear shoes, and possible puss or discharge is present.

When I should seek treatment?

If there is redness and pain you should seek treatment as soon as possible as there may be an infection. If you have recurring ingrown toenails, we recommend seeing us for a permanent procedure.

Is the treatment covered by Alberta Health Care?

No, the treatment is not covered by Alberta Health Care. If you have health benefits from an insurance provider, check to see if you have coverage for podiatry services that will cover the procedure.

What procedures do you offer?

We offer a permanent ingrown toenail surgery called a chemical matrixectomy. The ingrown nail is carefully removed from the nail bed and phenol is applied to the nail bed, killing the growth cells. Our fees for ingrown toe nail surgery at Dalhousie Station Foot Clinic include the procedure itself, all follow-up appointments related to the treatment, a written 2 year guarantee against regrowth.
